The Corporate Gifting Calendar: When to Order Custom Gifts for Every Occasion

Corporate gifting fails on timing more than on budget or ideas. This is the full annual calendar — when to brief your supplier for Christmas, conventions, weddings and every other occasion, and why early planners always gift better.

Corporate gifting fails for one reason more than any other: timing. The idea is right, the budget is approved, the supplier is capable — but the conversation starts six weeks before Christmas, and quality custom production simply takes longer than that.

This article lays out the full corporate gifting calendar: when to start planning for every major occasion, and why the companies that gift best are simply the companies that plan earliest.

The Golden Rule: Count Backwards

Custom silk production follows a fixed sequence that cannot be compressed without sacrificing quality: design development and e-proof approval (1-2 weeks), physical sample production (2-3 weeks), bulk production (3-5 weeks depending on finishing), then shipping. Total: roughly 8 to 10 weeks from first conversation to delivered product.

Every deadline in this article derives from that simple arithmetic.

The Annual Gifting Calendar

End-of-Year and Christmas Gifting → Start in September

The most important gifting season — and the most congested. Production slots across the Como district fill rapidly from October onward. Companies that brief in September enjoy full design attention, comfortable sampling time and guaranteed December delivery. Companies that call in mid-November face a hard truth: quality custom silk by Christmas is no longer realistic.

Chinese New Year → Start in October

For companies with Asian clients and partners, CNY gifting (January-February) is a major occasion — and it arrives immediately after the Christmas production crunch. Brief in October to secure production before the holiday pipeline closes.

Annual Conventions and Spring Events → 3 Months Before the Date

Sales kickoffs, shareholder meetings, spring conferences: whatever the date, count 12 weeks backwards for the brief. Event gifting has zero date flexibility — the accessory must exist on the day — so the buffer matters more here than anywhere.

Wedding Season → 4 Months Before the Wedding

Couples and planners commissioning custom favors — twillys, pocket squares, printed pareos — should brief four months out. Wedding projects typically involve more design iteration (the artwork is deeply personal) and benefit from generous sampling time.

Summer Resort Season → Start in February

Hotels, beach clubs and resorts introducing custom pareos, scarves or boutique collections for summer need production complete by May. February briefing allows full design development before the spring production season peaks.

Employee Recognition and Milestones → Rolling, 10 Weeks Ahead

Work anniversaries and internal awards are predictable months in advance — which makes them the easiest gifting occasion to execute perfectly. Build a rolling 10-week pipeline and the program runs itself.

Why Early Briefing Produces Better Gifts (Not Just On-Time Ones)

Design gets iterations. The difference between a good custom scarf and an exceptional one is usually two or three design refinement rounds. Early projects have time for them; late projects take the first acceptable draft.

Sampling becomes meaningful. With time in hand, a disappointing sample is a correction opportunity. Against a deadline, it becomes a crisis.

Formats stay open. Hand-rolled hems — the luxury finishing that elevates a corporate gift — add production time. Early planners can choose them; late planners often cannot.

Shipping stress disappears. International recipients, customs, multiple delivery addresses: all trivial with buffer, all hazardous without.

A Simple Planning Framework

For any gifting occasion, work through four dates in reverse: the day recipients must have the gift; minus shipping time; minus 3-5 weeks bulk production; minus 2-3 weeks sampling; minus 1-2 weeks design. The result is your briefing date. Put it in the calendar the moment the occasion is confirmed — months before anyone is thinking about gifts.

The companies whose gifts are remembered are rarely the ones that spent the most. They are the ones that started the earliest.
